Additional Details: Lament for the Martyrs of ICE Violence for strings is a protest piece against the horrific violence ICE is inflicting on people in Minneapolis-Saint Paul. Inspired by Krzysztof Penderecki’s Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima, the piece is in tribute to Renee Good, Alex Pretti, and others who have been murdered by ICE. I also wanted to honor the brave upstanders who are bearing witness—as in the original Greek use of the term martyr—to these injustices and to anyone traumatized by ICE.

This is my sonic protest, as well as a reminder of the beauty and positive power of music and the arts to speak for nonviolence, diversity, and equality.
