Drawn from the 1892 anthology A Book of Famous Verse, the poems of Three Romantic Part Songs are cited by editor Agnes Repplier for their ”unhappy fates, fairy music ringing in the ears, half-told tales which set the young heart dreaming.” The part song genre was popular in the Victorian era, cultivated by composers like Elgar, Stanford and Arthur Sullivan.
