Program Note: The prayer widely attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi first appeared in the French magazine La Clochette in 1912, where it may have been written by the editor, Father Esther Bouquerel. In 1927 the Quaker magazine Friends' Intelligencer published an anonymous English translation of the prayer which associated it with the Saint. The text is now in the public domain, with musical settings by such varied creators as Arthur Bliss, Bing Crosby and Sarah Mclachlan.
